Our lives can get full really fast.
Schedules fill up.
Notifications keep coming.
There’s always another task, another event, another thing demanding attention.
And sometimes we mistake being busy for actually being fulfilled.
That’s the tension Jesus speaks into when He says, “I am the true vine.”
In John 15, Jesus gives His disciples this picture of a vine and branches. The point is simple but challenging: staying connected to Him is what produces real life.
Not productivity.
Not constant motion.
Not success on paper.
Connection.
It’s possible to have a packed calendar and still feel spiritually dry.
It’s possible to accomplish a lot while slowly drifting from the things that matter most.
Jesus reminds us that apart from Him, we wither. But when we stay connected to Him, real fruit begins to grow—love, peace, patience, joy, gentleness, and a life that actually feeds the people around us.
The hard part is that many of us try to attach ourselves to other “vines.”
Achievement.
Relationships.
Politics.
Social media.
Constant productivity.
We keep hoping those things will finally satisfy us, but they eventually leave us empty.
Jesus doesn’t offer more pressure to perform.
He offers a different way to live.
A slower, deeper, more rooted life.
A life where your value doesn’t come from how much you get done.
A life where growth happens through staying connected to Him day by day.
And honestly, that kind of connection takes intentionality.
Remaining in Jesus isn’t passive.
It’s choosing, over and over again, to stay close to Him instead of drifting toward distraction.
That’s why Scripture matters.
Prayer matters.
Community matters.
Not because they make us “better people,” but because they keep us connected to the source of life itself.
The encouraging part is this: God doesn’t prune us to harm us.
He prunes us so we can grow.
Even difficult seasons can become places where God shapes us, strengthens us, and produces something deeper than surface-level success.
So maybe the question this week isn’t:
“How much can I get done?”
Maybe it’s:
“What am I connected to?”
Because busy doesn’t always mean fulfilled.
But staying connected to Jesus leads to the kind of life that actually lasts.
If you’ve been feeling stretched thin or spiritually disconnected, don’t try to figure it out alone.
Take one small step toward connection this week—and if you’re in Tallahassee, we’d love for you to join us Sunday as we continue following Jesus together.
